No one saw this coming.

The 2014 NBA Draft was supposed to be the beginning of the Andrew Wiggins era. The night belonged to him. Nobody knew that the real centerpiece of that draft wouldn’t come off the board 40 picks later — picked so deep that ESPN cut to a Taco Bell commercial while his name was being called.

Nikola Jokić looked like your standard draft-and-stash project. Denver planned to let him develop overseas before bringing him stateside as a serviceable big. What they got instead was a player who would redefine the center position and change the way the game is played at every level.

We’re not here to debate whether Jokić is great. He is. What we want to know is whether the hobby is giving the three-time MVP the respect he deserves or if he’s still getting the same treatment he got on draft night.

Let’s rip in.
