The Wax Value Index was built for the moment a product drops. But here’s something we can’t talk about enough: it works just as well years later.

Prices shift all the time. And when box prices change, so does the math on which format makes the most sense. That’s the whole premise behind Wax Rewind, a new series for paid subscribers where we revisit older releases and find out whether there's still value hiding in the wax.

Each installment, we’ll drop the index, walk through the initial appeal, dig into the odds, and give you a clear-eyed read on whether it’s still worth the rip.

Let’s get into it.

How the Index Works

Quick refresher before we dive in.

We use published pack odds and box configurations to calculate the long-term average spend required to pull a specific card in each format. The sheet factors in stated odds, pack counts per box, and current box prices, then spits out expected average spend across every format automatically.

This isn’t a guarantee. It’s long-term probability. Variance is always in play. But over time, the math tells a story.

To use the Index, update the box prices in the highlighted cells. All expected spend values and color rankings adjust automatically.

  • Green = lowest average spend for that card

  • Red = highest average spend

  • Black = card not available in that format

SKU Codes

We're dealing with past releases here, so SKU codes aren't much help. You're not finding these on the shelves at your local Walmart or Target. If you do, tell us where and we'll be there in a heartbeat.
