Why We’re Doing This
We started The Hobby Wire because this hobby deserves better coverage. More data. More honest takes. Fewer press releases dressed up as analysis.
The free tier isn’t going anywhere. The monthly State of the Hobby, Wax Watch, Ripped Reviews, and a little bit of every flavor of The Hobby Wire will always be available to every subscriber, no exceptions. If you’re happy with two articles a week and want to keep it exactly as-is, nothing changes for you. We mean that.
But here’s the truth: we have more to say than we currently have the runway to publish. More deep dives on card market trends. More Collector’s Case Studies. More Rookies Regraded. More of the stuff you’ve told us you actually read.
The paid tier is how we get there.
One extra article per week. Every week. For the collectors who want to go deeper.
What We’re Not Doing
We’re not gatekeeping the good stuff behind a paywall. That’s not the move, and frankly, it’s not who we are.
We’re not padding the free tier with filler to make the paid tier feel more valuable by comparison. If we’re running it on The Hobby Wire, it’s because we think it’s going to be worth your time.
And we’re definitely not pretending this is anything other than what it is — a small publication created by collectors, asking you to invest in something we genuinely believe in.
What We Actually Want
Bigger than the paid tier, bigger than the price point, is this: we want The Hobby Wire to become a community.
This hobby is a lot. The market moves fast, the products keep coming, and the noise-to-signal ratio isn’t great out there. It’s a lot easier to navigate when you’re not doing it alone.
That’s what we’re building toward. A place where collectors who take the hobby seriously — but not too seriously — can think it through together. Your feedback already shapes how we cover things. Your questions already drive stories. We want more of that, not less.
